“It’s not any other driver replacing you, but the best driver in history” : Carlos Sainz reveals why Ferrari sub did not hurt him too much
Carlos Sainz is in his fourth season as Ferrari driver. The Ferrari driver will be replaced by the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for the coming season. The Brit’s move to Ferrari was finalized earlier this year, as Lewis Hamilton ends his decade-long reign at Mercedes.
Carlos Sainz stated that Ferrari’s decision to go ahead with Lewis Hamilton did not hurt him much. The Spaniard stated that it was very understandable for the team to go with some one of Lewis Hamilton’s caliber. The Brit holds the joint-record for most word championships won, which is seven.
Carlos Sainz stated that he is replaced by the greatest ever F1 driver, and not just any driver. Hence, he should not have any regrets or complaints. “I obviously understand Ferrari’s decision, the opportunity to sign a seven-time world champion and what it can entail and attract to a team,” said Sainz.
Carlos Sainz understands why Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has been at Mercedes for almost over a decade, winning six world championship titles during his spell. Carlos Sainz is yet to find his seat for the next season, as the Spaniard is expected to make a call in the summer break.
“That’s why, when I reflected on it, it didn’t hurt me that much. Because in the end it’s not any other driver replacing you, but the best driver in history. And in the end, if one has to replace me, let it be [Lewis].“
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have been on the rise over the last couple of months. The Silver Arrows claimed back to back wins in Austria and the British GP. At the Austrian GP, it was George Russell who finished P1, as he took advantage of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’ crash. The Silverstone GP was won by Lewis Hamilton, who won his first ever race since Jeddah 2021.
