“My behavior on the court was unacceptable” : Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms split with father as coach

“My behavior on the court was unacceptable” : Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms split with father as coach Stefanos Tsitsipas has confirmed his split with his father Apostolos as his coach. This decision comes on the back of a surprising second round defeat at the hands of Kei Nishikori in Montreal. The Greek tennis star lashed out at his father publicly after his defeat to the Japanese. Stefanos Tsitsipas took to social media to confirm his split with his father. He also stated that his behavior on the court was completely unacceptable, as he let his emotions get the better of him. The Greek tennis star has been having a torrid year on the tour, as he also lost in the second round of Wimbledon last month. “I’ve already been complaining to my coach about it for the last four to five days,” Tsitsipas had said after his defeat in the second round in Montreal. “That was also the reason why I had a confrontation with him during the match, I’m not used to it. For me, an ATP Master 1000 match is an important match. I need and I deserve a coach that listens to me and hears my feedback as a player. My father hasn’t been very smart or very good at handling those situations. It’s not the first time he has done that. I’m really disappointed in him,” he added. Stefanos Tsitsipas is now scheduled to compete at the Cincinnati Masters, before the final Grand Slam of the year kicks off at the Flushing Meadows by the end of his month. Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms split with father Stefanos Tsitsipas penned down a message on his social media for his behavior on the court during his loss to Kei Nishikori in Montreal. He also thanked his father for his valuable contribution as his coach since the childhood days. However, the Greek also announced that he would no longer be coached by his father. Stefanos Tsitsipas has not announced his new coach yet, as he revealed that his father will still be travelling with him for tournaments. “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my collaboration with my father as a coach has come to an end. I prefer to keep my father in his role as a father, and only as a father. Philosophy teaches us that wisdom comes through understanding our limits and acknowledging our mistakes. In my case, I realised that I was wrong to talk to my father the way I did,” wrote Tsitsipas. “Tennis is not just a match, a hit or a performance of a few seconds. It is a long journey full of emotions, pressure and expectations,” he added. “My behaviour on the court was unacceptable, and I feel disappointed that I got to a point where I showed a dark side of myself. When I feel disrespected, judged, or emotionally attacked, I tend to lose control of what comes out of my mouth, which goes against my values as a human being. I lost control and could not see clearly in front of me,” added the Greek. “My father has been trying for the last few years to train me, raise me the right way and provide me with knowledge and wisdom, both on and off the field. I thank him for that.“ “I thank him for the sacrifices, pain and suffering he has endured to make this endeavour a success. From now on, his role will remain within the confines of the father role, and that alone. My father will continue to travel with me and be there to support me and provide assistance off the field, as I have always wanted.“ Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded ninth in Cincinnati, as he opens his campaign against Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round. This could prove to be a challenging first round encounter for the ninth seed, as the German is pretty capable of staging an upset. “As soon as I landed vault, I was like, ‘Definitely were’ going to do this” : Simone Biles Simone Biles and Team USA claimed their fourth ever gold in the Women’s Team in Gymnastics at the Summer Games. Simone Biles led her country as they regained their gold medal. This is some redemption for the American gymnast who had to withdraw midway through the finals of the same event in Tokyo. Simone Biles faced ‘twisties’ at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. To put it into context, twisties is a mental condition when a gymnast feels that they cannot move mid air because of the extreme pressure. The American withdrew from the team event in Tokyo, although they did manage to clinch the silver medal. She also withdrew from a couple of final events, before coming back a week later to win a bronze medal. However, for Simone Biles and Team USA in Paris, it was a flawless performance. Simone Biles stated that as soon as she landed the vault, she was confident of winning the gold medal. She now becomes the most decorated American gymnast of all-time, winning eight medals with more events to follow. “After I finished vault, I was relieved. I was like, ‘Phew!’ because at least no flashbacks or anything. I did feel a lot of relief. As soon as I landed vault, I was like, ‘Definitely were’ going to do this,” she said, as quoted by the Olympic website. Simon Biles inspires Team USA to reclaim gold medal in team event Simon Biles stated that the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal feels pretty special, given the fact that they were not the clear favorites. She believes that in 2016, they were the favorites to win the gold medal, which they eventually did. The American also stated that in Paris, she is among the more experienced gymnasts, while in Rio, she was relatively a newbie. “I think in 2016, we were destined to win gold, everybody kind of already said we were going to win gold. Now that I’m much older and we have so much more experience, we’re out here really having fun and enjoying what we’re doing,” she said. “It just felt a little bit different [tonight]. It was super exciting, we had fun, we enjoyed each other’s time out there, and we just did our gymnastics,” she added. There are also several individual events where Simone Biles will be competing for medals. She will look to end her Olympic campaign with double digit medals, and extend her supremacy as America’s greatest gymnast. “You don’t win doubles just by being a name” : Carlos Alcaraz on the pressure of winning a gold medal at Paris Olympics

“You don’t win doubles just by being a name” : Carlos Alcaraz on the pressure of winning a gold medal at Paris Olympics The dream team of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal have stormed into the quarterfinals of the Doubles event at the Paris Olympics. The Spanish team defeated the Dutch pair of Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof in the second round via a final set tiebreaker. The Spaniard, who is currently the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion stated that there are certainly expectations from the Spanish pair to go on and win a gold medal. Rafael Nadal has already claimed a gold medal in the Doubles event back in 2016, when he won it alongside Marc Lopez in Rio. “People obviously want us to win gold in doubles, but that’s normal. We try not to think too much about it, about the pressure or that we have the obligation to do it… Obviously, you don’t win doubles just by being a name, so anything can happen,” said Alcaraz. “We have been getting along well” : Rafael Nadal on his partnership with Carlos Alcaraz Rafael Nadal revealed that his partnership with Carlos Alcaraz was going pretty well currently. The veteran stated that none of them play Doubles regularly, hence catching up to the pros could pose a challenge as the tournament progresses. “We have been getting along well, today more than the other day. Neither of us play too many doubles, so as the days go by we are improving, although the risk is always there when you play against established doubles players,” Rafael Nadal told Eurosport. Carlos Alcaraz also reached the quarterfinals of the Men’s Singles event, as he defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets in the third round on Wednesday. “I’ve always seen a driver’s departure as a new opportunity for the team” : Toto Wolff on Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes exit

“I’ve always seen a driver’s departure as a new opportunity for the team” : Toto Wolff on Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes exit Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff remains optimistic despite the departure of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton next season. The Briton announced earlier this season that he would join Ferrari after the end of the 2024 season, after spending over a decade at Mercedes. Toto Wolff believes that every departure brings about a fresh opportunity, which he hopes is the case this time around. Lewis Hamilton won six titles whilst his time at the Silver Arrows, winning all of them in his first eight seasons here. Mercedes remain one of the only four teams to finalize their pairing for the 2025 season, as they are yet to decide as to who would race alongside George Russell. Toto Wolff revealed that F1 prodigy Kimi Antonelli is their first choice option, but they are also scanning the market currently. “I’ve always seen a driver’s departure as a new opportunity for the team. Change is good and you have to embrace it,” Wolff told Autosport Wereld. “The criteria for our next driver is simple: we want the best driver available and, at the moment, my first option is Kimi Antonelli,” he added. Toto Wolff says Max Verstappen joining Mercedes in the near future is unlikely Toto Wolff has expressed his desire to sign three-time world champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. The Austrian boss accepts that signing him for the 2025 season might sound a little too ambitious, however, they will not give up on him just yet. Carlos Sainz was another name rumored to join Mercedes earlier. However, Toto Wolff clarified that they are not looking to sign the Spaniard. “At the moment, my first option is Kimi. An alternative scenario is of course Verstappen, but atm that doesn’t seem realistic” “I will continue to observe the market. I am not sure how things will evolve further at Red Bull,” Wolff said. All is not well in the Mercedes garage at the moment as Red Bull have been caught up by rivals this season. Max Verstappen has not claimed a race win in the last four races heading to the summer break, despite leading the championship. Moreover, war of words between the Dutchman’s father Jos Verstappen and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner raises several eyebrows.
