“We’re going to really go for it” : Mikel Arteta sends a message to Liverpool after closing the gap on the league leaders

“We’re going to really go for it” : Mikel Arteta sends a message to Liverpool after closing the gap on the league leaders Mikel Arteta’s men earned a crucial victory against Leicester City on Saturday. This has helped the Gunners to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool. Arsenal are now just four points behind Liverpool, with their rivals facing Wolves on Sunday. Mikel Merino’s heroics helped Arsenal claim all three points against the Foxes. The match was heading for a 0-0 draw, before the Spaniard scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Mikel Merino was deployed as make-shift centre forward in the absence of the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka. The super sub scored a header to give the visitors a lead, and calmly put the ball into the back of the next with his left foot for his second goal. This victory has helped Arsenal to maintain the pressure on Liverpool, who dropped points against Everton last week. “Yes, and it was [important] for us as well. Everything that happened in the last few days, it was a lot of noise to show how much we want it, because regardless of what happens, we’re going to really go for it, that we believe for the resources that we have and the quality of our players and still adapt and be competitive and still win a lot of football matches,” Arteta had said, following their victory over Leicester. Mikel Arteta answers if Mikel Merino can solve Arsenal’s problem up top Mikel Arteta gave his opinion if Mikel Merino could be his go-to striker for the rest of the season. The Spaniard has been facing a huge selection dilemma over the past couple of weeks, with several forwards being sidelined due to injury. Mikel Arteta stated that different players could be used in the false number nine role depending on the situation and player availability. He hopes that they can perform as well as Mikel Merino did against the Foxes. “We’re going to have to share that, we know that. We’re going to have various contexts; sometimes we’re going to have to make a sub because a player isn’t performing, or because the opposition is doing something else, or because someone’s a yellow card, or it’s fatigue, that’s going to restrict what we do really in terms of the personnel. We have prepared for different scenarios then those have to work, hopefully they will work as good as Mikel worked today,” he added. Mikel Arteta further heaped praise on the Spaniard stating that he has a good sense of his positioning, and has an eye for the goal. Moreover, he also mentioned the delivery he received for both of his goals, which were near inch perfect. “I didn’t think that to be fair [on the comparisons to Marouane Fellaini], but Mikel has got that. He’s a goal threat, because he can smell danger, he can anticipate the action, he’s got really good timing to arrive into certain areas and then he obviously has the capacity to execute with that part of his body. He needed the delivery, certainly had that as well and he put it into the back of the net,” said the Arsenal boss. Also Read: “Yes, why not? “I’ve never seen a decision like this in my career” : Mikel Arteta furious after Brighton penalty decision as Gunners drop crucial points

“I’ve never seen a decision like this in my career” : Mikel Arteta furious after Brighton penalty decision as Gunners drop crucial points Mikel Arteta was disappointed after Arsenal were held to a draw by Brighton on Saturday. The Gunners opened the scoring through Ethan Nwaneri in the 16th minute, as the visitors looked poised for a comfortable evening away from home. However, the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty in the second half, which was converted by Joao Pedro in the 61th minute. William Saliba missed the ball as he struck his head into Joao Pedro’s forehead during a corner kick for Brighton. The referee decided to award a penalty kick which shocked the Arsenal players, and left Mikel Arteta fuming post the final whistle. Arsenal boss stated that he had never seen a decision like this in his lifetime, and neither did his players too. “I’ve never seen a decision like this in my career. I asked the boys, and they have never seen anything like it,” said Arteta. Mikel Arteta also spoke about his team’s below par performance, as his side lacked control after opening the scoring in the first 20 minutes of the game.  “First of all One thing, I’m disappointed with the result, especially since we started the match very well and scored a beautiful goal, but then we lacked control, lost the ball, and didn’t do the simple things well enough to be on top of the match and control the course of the match as required. The game was always open without us conceding any goals.” Arsenal drop two vital points in bid to win Premier League title This draw leaves Arsenal five points behind league leaders Liverpool, who also have two games in hand. The Gunners now face an uphill task if they are to win the league title from here on. Arsenal will now host Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals, as they play five successive league games. They will also host Manchester United at the Emirates next week for the FA Cup third round clash. Mikel Arteta stated that a lot of things were not up to the mark in the second half as the players looked pretty tired and exhausted. The Spaniard stated that the intensity had dropped in the second half, as he believes that his side lost two points against Brighton. On the second half performance: “We did a lot of things that were not at the desired level with the ball so we did not get any momentum We never settled in areas where we could create opportunities and counter-pressure at the right moment We conceded one chance when we had 10 players on the pitch, I think we have to do much better than today and unfortunately we lost two points.” Also Read: “Yes, why not? “Yes, why not? Arsenal is my home” : Santi Cazorla on a potential return to North London

“Yes, why not? Arsenal is my home” : Santi Cazorla on a potential return to North London It is no secret that Mikel Arteta has done a fantastic job ever since taking the mantle of head coach with the Gunners. Arsenal was the team with the most number of wins throughout this year as well. The problem that lies is, apart from an FA Cup and two Community Shields, the Spaniard does not really have anything else to show how far their progress has come. Prior seasons it was Manchester City, and currently it is Liverpool who is absolutely dominating thanks to new manager Arne Slot’s tactics along with Mohamed Salah’s Ballon d’or worthy form. The Gunners are currently six points behind the Reds (who have a game in hand) as the first half of the season is already done. While Mikel Arteta would regularly not care for some extra assistance in coaching, he would certainly make an exception for former Arsenal midfield maestro Santi Cazorla. The Spanish duo played together at the North London club while also winning an FA Cup, as Cazorla slowly became a fan-favourite. The 40-year-old is currently playing in Spain’s Second Division club Oviedo, but would not mind a return to his Gunners family as part of the coaching staff, as he expressed his sentiments towards Arteta and the club in a recent interview. “Mikel is doing an incredible job. I understand that competing with Manchester City last year and Liverpool this year is very difficult, but they must keep fighting. I believe in them. I hope Liverpool loses some points, and Arsenal can win the title.” “Yes, why not? Arsenal is my home. I love this club and the fans, so we’ll see what happens in the future. I don’t yet know what role I could take. I need to think about it, but I definitely want to stay in football because it’s what I love.”Cazorla said when asked about a potential return to the North London club. “He’s one of the best players that I have played with” : Mikel Arteta’s thoughts on Santi Cazorla The Spaniard coach was also not shy on heaping praise towards his former teammate, who he believes had a very special six years with the club from 2012 to 2018, winning two FA Cups and Community Shields. Arteta also reflected on the fact that apart from his football, he was also a beloved member in the dressing room, even without his knowledge of the English language. “He’s one of the best players that I have played with. But then it’s also about the person, and he’s a very special character. He was loved by everybody in the dressing room, [and everybody] at the club. Even without speaking English, he was loved by all the crowd, which is a compliment of him.”the 42-year-old expressed to Amazon Prime Video. Santi Cazorla was also present at the Emirates stadium on Friday when the Gunners narrowly marched past Ipswich Town in a 1-0 victory. It will not be the first time a former club player will return to the team as a coaching member, and certainly will not be the last time. Most recently, former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago also joined Hansi Flick’s coaching staff in the summer with rumours of him making his return in the second half of the season as well. Regardless, Santi Cazorla’s homecoming to Arsenal would be a special one for the fans especially, if it ever happens, sooner or later.

“I will be judged on the place that we finish” : Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s huge win over Everton

“I will be judged on the place that we finish” : Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s huge win over Everton With his first home game taken place, Ruben Amorim’s era as Manchester United manager is officially underway, in some fashion. The Red Devils thrashed Everton 4-0 as both Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford scored a brace, the latter’s name on the scoresheet has given much joy to the fans. Manchester United are finally inside the top 10 in the Premier League table, four points separate them to the Champions League spots. And of course, the Portuguese manager was asked if playing in Europe next season is becoming more realistic or not, to which he replied that his tenure will be judged by the position he brings the club to, although he would prefer looking more into performances than results. “I will be judged [on] the place that we finish. If I said no you will say that I cannot be a Manchester United manager,” Amorim said. “I want to be honest with our fans – so let’s focus on the performance, not the results. Let’s focus just on the next game and look at the performance. Thursday [against Bodø/Glimt] it was 3-2, but I think we deserved more. Today was 4-0 – but I think Everton deserved [more]. So let’s focus on the performance.” the Portuguese added. “He can do so much” : Ruben Amorim believes Marcus Rashford can do even better Marcus Rashford’s brace has certainly gotten fans excited for what is to come. We all know how lethal the Englishman can be over the years, but he has been widely inconsistent throughout his career with the United first team. When in form, there are not many which can be compared to Rashford and his intent of always attacking and going forward, but unfortunately consistency is what he lacks. When asked about his display against Everton, Amorim, who on Friday said that Rashford would want to have it inside him to be the best, had big words to describe the Englishman as he wants him to do even more. “Yeah. He can do so much, he has to continue to improve, he has the ability to do it and he has already proved that. But he can play so much better, like the other guys, so it was a good performance. Tomorrow, he has to recover and start thinking about Arsenal [on Wednesday].” the 39-year-old said. Ruben Amorim also explained why he chose the Dutch striker over Rasmus Hojlund, who also scored a brace against Bodo/Glimt. The Portuguese thinks that the Danish striker would have struggled to get away from the Everton centre-backs. His guess was right as Zirkzee was able to score twice which helped him and the team’s overall confidence further. “It would have been really hard for Rasmus to fight with the two centre-backs of Everton so we tried to push them to a position they are not so comfortable with. Josh did a great job, scored two goals which is always important for the confidence, and more important than that is the performance and how he fought in every situation. It was a good day for him and our team.” Amorim explained. Ruben Amorim’s next and first real challenge will be to face arch rivals Arsenal at the Emirates, who themselves have gotten into fantastic form after the international break and the re-addition of captain Martin Odegaard in the first team dynamics. A win would see them get inch close to the top four. Also Read: “I feel a lot of sympathy” : Mikel Arteta on Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s recent poor form

Harry Kane believes Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are to blame for the lack of strikers in the current era of football

Harry Kane believes Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are to blame for the lack of strikers in the current era of football Since the past few years, there has been a heavy decline on both quality and quantity of out and out strikers. Football is changing, and gone are the days that the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Diego Forlan, Robin van Persie, Andriy Shevchenko, among many other world class strikers are the main source of presence inside the 18-yard box.  Many young talents and the current best players in the world right now are actually wingers (and one very potent CDM) as Mohamed Salah, Lamine Yamal, Vinicius Jr., and even Kylian Mbappe’s preferred position is out wide. Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski remain the last of what seems to be like a dying breed of complete strikers, and the former believes it is due to the impact of two players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. For the past 15 years, this legendary duo has dominated the sport so much so that they have undisputedly become the two greatest players the sport has ever seen. This in turn has made their influence tenfold, as all young prospects want to become like them. We already have live examples, as Kylian Mbappe and Alejandro Garnacho have been lifelong Ronaldo fans and their preferred position is the same as the Portuguese. While Lamine Yamal, who has been in La Masia all his life, is obviously more drawn to the Argentinian and thus, has grown into possibly the best right winger the world has seen in decades. The England captain believes this is the main reason for the shortage of no. 9s, and he recently expressed this feeling over at TNT Sports Brazil. “The game is changing a little bit” : Harry Kane The Englishman said that during his youth, there were exceptional strikers which led him to pursue the same position, and that the tactics are different now as more managers tend to have strikers, wingers or attacking midfielders in a false 9 role. “The game is changing a little bit. The way coaching is now [means] a lot of players grow up wanting to be wingers. I think [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo] dominated for a long, long time playing off the wings. I think a lot of players wanted to watch them. When I was growing up, I had some of the best strikers in the world [to watch], so I wanted to be a No. 9. That’s just the way football goes. I think, tactically, some managers play with a false nine, or a nine-and-a-half/10 position. It’s a shame because, ultimately, I think scoring goals is the hardest thing in football, so I would like to see more No. 9s coming through, but over the years you’ll see it come and go. But for sure, when I was growing up at No. 9 there were some incredible players.” the Bayern Munich forward addressed. Harry Kane is also one of the more complete strikers still around, as apart from goals, he can also contribute in terms of creative playmaking. However, he revealed that he admired the way R9 played, from his insane speed and movement to his unplayable dribbling. “I think we’re totally different players in the way we play, but ultimately, the way he used to finish was as good as anyone, as well as the way he moved with the ball. His dribbling ability. His movement. I think he was as good as anyone in the world. He had a lot more ability than me if I’m totally honest. He had good pace as well. But for me growing up, I tried to watch all the best strikers in the world, and he was in his prime at the time. It was a joy to watch him, and it’s been nice to score a few goals myself and take a few bits from his game.” the 31-year-old revealed. While football might be changing to a more tactical way and forwards approach being one of minimal risk and keeping possession, it makes the need of special talents bursting out the scene even more. While we may not see Messi’s complete mastery of the game or Ronaldo’s insane goalscoring ability, the likes of Lamine Yamal and his creative playmaking and Jamal Musiala’s close control dribbling are some aspects that the game will never leave out.

“I feel a lot of sympathy” : Mikel Arteta on Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s recent poor form

“I feel a lot of sympathy” : Mikel Arteta on Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s recent poor form Manchester City have far and away been the best English team in football for the past decade. But when Pep Guardiola arrived in Manchester in 2016, he brought in a new era of football with him, an era which we are still living in. The Spainard, after his heroics with FC Barcelona from 2008-2012, made him cemented as one of the greatest managers of all time. And while there were doubts regarding whether or not he would hack it in the toughest league in the world, those soon vanished after he dominantly won the league in his first full season with the club. Now, with six Premier League titles and one Champions League while breaking a variety of league records, the Spainard has revolutionized the sport once again, and it seemed like there was no stopping Manchester City as long as the Spainard is around. But, for the first time in his whole managerial career, Pep Guardiola just lost five matches in a row, add a draw against Feyenoord in the most recent match and that was the breaking point for Guardiola, as his face was literally filled with question marks. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, formerly Guardiola’s assistant during his stint with the Blues, knows what its like working with the Spainard and the huge responsibility that comes with the job, after setting the standards so high. Naturally, Arteta showed sympathy towards Guardiola and has suggested worry for his mental well-being. “Everybody has a bump” : Mikel Arteta Although Mikel Arteta has confirmed his worry for his former boss and now rival, he believes that City will ultimately get back on track like nothing happened, as the empire that Guardiola has built up over his tenure cannot just go in vain. “That is something very personal, but I feel a lot of sympathy for all my colleagues because I know the job, I know how ruthless this industry is, I know how we get judged just by one thing, which is results, regardless that you have done exactly the same thing and the outcome becomes different. We have to deal with that. I know how difficult it is because personally I have been through that a lot and every defeat is obviously super-painful. And that’s it. Then just put some perspective into it like we always do and move on, because there is always another game.” Arteta said. The Gunners head coach also talked about the level and consistency the teams have to be in in order to gain monumental success, and to do that for more than eight years is something else. “What people have to talk about [is] how difficult it is what they have done for nine years consistently. And yeah, a bump, everybody has a bump. For them, it is very strange because in nine years they never had it. But that tells you as well the level and the environment that we are in, that everything has to go almost perfect. Performance has to be perfect, availability of your squad has to be perfect, things have to go your way and the opposition, the level is different, and it’s so hard to win.” the 42-year-old added. Apart from losing Rodri through an unfortunate ACL injury, blame can also be put on Manchester City’s dull transfer window. Their average squad age has grown over the years to more than 27, as the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Kyle Walker, newly returned Ilkay Gundogan among others look a shadow of their former self. It is clear that the Spainard would need fresher legs in the upcoming winter window as the level of intensity in Europe nowadays require more than just 11 starting players. To get their first win in seven matches, Pep Guardiola now has to go to a literal lion’s den in the form of Liverpool, who look out of this world at the moment. Although it is a high-risk high reward game, Pep is one of those few managers who can turn the tide in his favour at any given moment.

“My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self-harm” : Pep Guardiola retracts his comments on potentially harming himself after draw against Feyenoord

“My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self-harm” : Pep Guardiola retracts his comments on potentially harming himself after draw against Feyenoord This sport never fails to surprise us. For the first time in history, a Pep Guardiola managed team has lost five games in a row. English football royalty Manchester City were off to a great start to the season, up until the point their star man and Ballon d’or winner Rodri got injured. But even after this major loss, Guardiola managed to adapt so as to continue the winning streak. But his plans came crashing down like nothing we have ever seen before. City have failed to win a match the whole of November, as problems keep on arriving as stated by the Spainard. From Victor Gyokeres’s hattrick to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs dismantling them from minute one, it looks like even Pep Guardiola will need to make drastic changes in order to get back. But even the greatest managers have a breaking point, and we finally saw the Spainard completely spiralling after drawing 3-3 to Feyenoord in the Champions League, ‘bottling’ a 3-0 lead in just 15 minutes. During the post-match interview, Pep Guardiola’s head was seen with visible scratches, and also a minor cut on his nose was present. When asked by a journalist about those marks, the Spaniard’s reply shocked everyone, with some even worried about his mental health. “I want to harm myself.” Pep Guardiola said while smiling, as he swiftly left the press conference. Pep Guardiola issues his statement on social media As the whole footballing world was left in shock and concern after the Spaniard’s remarks, he was quick enough to notice and addressed himself on social media, saying he was caught off guard by the journalist’s question. “I was caught off guard with a question at the end of a press conference last night about a scratch which had appeared on my face and explained that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused this.” “My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self-harm.” Pep Guardiola explained his post-match comments on X (formerly Twitter). The Spainard also showed empathy towards the people who are actually struggling with mental health, and placed a kind gesture of plugging the Samaritans hotline for those who need it. “I know that many people struggle with mental health issues every day, and I would like to take this moment to highlight one of the ways in people can seek help, by calling the Samaritans hotline on 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org” the 53-year-old added. While we have seen Guardiola absolutely losing it during matches, this was something way more serious and was rightfully addressed by the Spainard.  A win would be the best way to move on from this fiasco and to regain momentum, but that is easier said than done. Pep Guardiola faces his biggest rival Liverpool in possibly the worst time of his managerial career. The Reds have completely revamped under Arne Slot this season and are the title favourites this time around. Although, Manchester City are surprisingly still in second place even after so many implosions this month, and coming out on top of this fixture at Anfield would perfectly summarize the genius of Pep Guardiola.

“Social media is merciless and the media lets itself get carried away by it” : Borussia Dortmund CEO puts a hold on all the criticism received this season

“Social media is merciless and the media lets itself get carried away by it” : Borussia Dortmund CEO puts a hold on all the criticism received this season Although Hans-Joachim Watzke is on the exit ramp as CEO, he has still come out and tried to calm the situation which has been created via the club’s poor start to the season. The club that has one of the largest fanbases in the world has had the image of being second fiddle to heavyweights Bayern Munich for some time now, but even that had gotten into doubts due to their below par performances in recent years. Having not won a league title since 2011, Dortmund have come closer but have failed to go over the line. Just this year the German club found themselves in the Champions League final, which obviously shows progress; but new head coach Nuri Sahin has not been able to extend that momentum since the start of the new season. BVB currently stand at fifth place, a whole ten points below their Bavarian arch rivals who they are about to host next week in the season’s first Der-Klassiker. This has caused a lot of backlash and distrust on Sahin among fans on social media, who believe they are owed better performances after enduring mediocrity for many years, while some have just given up expecting anything significant. But Watzke thinks otherwise, and recently addressed how fans should be more patient. “Solidarity has been replaced by impatience” : Hans-Joachim Watzke During the club’s AGM on Sunday, the outgoing CEO was stern with his belief over the team and the manager, as he described that the club is doing just fine and wanted fans to not get carried away by social media’s influence. “I sometimes have the feeling that solidarity has been replaced by impatience. Are we fighting against relegation? We’ve just come out of the CL final and were millimeters away from the Bundesliga title the year before. We’re more financially stable than the vast majority of clubs.” “I get the feeling that there’s always unrest. Social media is merciless and the media lets itself get carried away by it. And maybe we do too a little. But we can’t do that as BVB. Our strength has always been solidarity. Borussia Dortmund doesn’t mean creating a shitstorm, it means sticking together.” the 65-year-old addressed. One of the criticisms have been the lack of external voices at the club, which some feel is the reason Nuri Sahin still has his job and is going to cause the downfall long-term wise. Even Lothar Matthaus recently wrote about this topic in his column for Sky Sport, suggesting that some ‘outside input’ might be good for the club. “Dortmund does not have an easy environment. You only have to look at the stands. There are people there who all have their own opinions. Matthias Sammer and Hans-Joachim Watzke are two very critical people. Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl may hold back a little. Sven Mislintat is also still involved.” “I don’t know yet whether BVB has unity in the stands. They are all people who have made a name for themselves in Dortmund. Maybe too much club history isn’t the right thing either. Some outside input from time to time might not be so bad.” Lothar Matthaus wrote on his column for Sky Sport. But Watzke thinks the opposite, as he loves the idea of having all the important figures of the club come from their own academy. He also believes how other clubs would have the chance to do the same thing. “We are proud that our sporting director, CEO, and coach come from our own academy, Sebastian Kehl has been a Borusse for 23 years. The three of them have won everything. That’s supposed to be bad? That’s Borussia Dortmund! Most clubs would like to have that.” Watzke said. Internal affairs of a club coming out to the public media is never a sign of a stable environment, as proven before by other clubs who have suffered greatly because of it. But Watzke’s stand was one of confidence, who believes in the club greatly and wants fans to have more patience in order to see the best results.

“Good player, but, not for Arsenal, no” : Former England international believes Arda Guler might not be the right suit for the Gunners

“Good player, but, not for Arsenal, no” : Former England international believes Arda Guler might not be the right suit for the Gunners Arda Guler has been one of the biggest young prospects this year, some even comparing his performances at the Euros this year to the prodigy that is Lamine Yamal. The youngster got his breakthrough last year by receiving a transfer call from Real Madrid, but his club career has gotten off to a very underwhelming start. This season especially, the Turkish international has been seen on the bench more often than not, as with the addition of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this season the Los Blancos are already stacked in attack whereas Carlo Ancelotti does not see Guler reprising a role in the midfield. Due to not receiving enough playing time, there have been reports that Arda Guler might be transferred or either loaned in the upcoming winter window, and the Gunners have been the frontrunners to seek this opportunity of signing a world class young talent, via Spanish outlet Sport. But take this information lightly for now, as Sport has been widely inconsistent with its reports for some time now. But not everyone is convinced that Arda Guler is essentially a good fit at the North London club, as former England international Darren Bent believes the Turkish might not break into Arteta’s strongest eleven just yet. “He won’t fit the squad” : Darren Bent Guler’s usual preferred position is on the right wing or as an advanced midfielder, both of which are occupied by Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Odegaard respectively, who are also one of the best players in those positions. So, it might be tough for the 19-year-old to break into the first team and receive regular playing time, at least initially. “Not for me. You want a grade out of five? He won’t fit the squad. I think he’s a very good player, I saw him at the Euros, very talented. But will you swap one bench for another?” Bent said on talkSPORT’s Insider Gooners podcast. “At Real Madrid he’s not getting the opportunities. Coming to Arsenal there are better options, be it out wide or in the No.10 role. I can’t see that one happening. Good player, but, not for Arsenal, no.” the former Spurs striker added. Maybe the January transfer window will be a good opportunity for the 19-year-old to move on loan for the time being, as LaLiga clubs will be desperate to gain the creative abilities of Guler, while he gets more accustomed to the league. Another high-profile young signing from Barcelona, Vitor Roque, is currently on loan to Real Betis where he is absolutely thriving. And obviously, transferring from Real Madrid to basically any other club can be termed as a downgrade. “I’m a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself” : Ruben Amorim thinks he is the right fit for Manchester United

“I’m a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself” : Ruben Amorim thinks he is the right fit for Manchester United It feels like we say this every year, but this season has been the worst start of Manchester United ever, even more so than last year’s antics displayed by Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman’s sacking was long coming, as he leaves the club on 13th place, eight points away from relegation zone. But the Red Devils have seen a slight improvement in their performances ever since the Dutch manager’s departure, as interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy did a good job in adding some momentum to the squad. Now comes the Portuguese manager’s turn Ruben Amorim, who has a lot on his plate, just like any other manager who would feel like coming into the lion’s den, as there has been basically no manager (after the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson’s era) whose reputation has not worsened after taking a job with the Red Devils. But Amorim is coming from Sporting CP, who have not lost a game yet and are on the top of the table comfortably. Obviously, the difference of quality in the leagues are visible, but if the Portuguese brings in the same ideology, then things might be turning sunny over in Manchester. “Call me naive, but I believe I am the right guy at the right time” : Ruben Amorim The 39-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Red Devils, and in his first media conference, his confidence was highly impressive as he made certain things clear. Although, Amorim does believe that he will need some time initially to implement things his way. “I’m a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and I believe in the club, I think we have the same idea, the same mindset and that can help. I truly believe in the players, I know you don’t believe a lot but I do. I want to try new things. You guys don’t think it’s possible, I do.” “Call me naive, but I believe I am the right guy at the right time. I truly believe I am the right guy.” Amorim declared during his first conference as Manchester United head coach. It is also worth noting that Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP recently beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League. Even if it does not look like it due to United’s performances in recent years, they are still the club with the most Premier League titles in history, and even if a dynasty cannot be created so soon, the Portuguese understands that he needs to lead the way to at least close in on the coveted title they once dominated. “I know at Manchester United we have to win games. We need a lot of time because it’s a tough league, we have to improve a lot to try to win the title. We have to change the physical aspect of the team. I don’t know how long it will take.” Amorim said. Jose Mourinho comparisons were always going to be followed, due to the same nationality and clubs. But the 39-year-old put a stop to it as he explained how Mourinho was already a Champions League winner even before joining Chelsea, and he is nowhere near that level for now. “I’m different from Mourinho, I remember that time, you looked at Mourinho and felt he could win everywhere. It’s not the same thing. He was European champion, I am not. Football is different nowadays, I think I am the right person for this moment. I am a young guy and I try to use this to help my players.” “Their young guys were [Frank] Lampard and these kind of players, nowadays it’s so much different. I think I’m right for now.” the 39-year-old explained. Ruben Amorim’s first match will be against Ipswich Town, and the Portuguese will look to start things off with a statement win.
